Escalante Field Days

Escalante Field Days is the premiere middle school education program that CCA and the BLM offer on the land in our Colorado National Conservation Areas. In conjunction with The Nature Connection, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and the Western Slope Interpretive Center, hundreds of students every year get to experience Escalante Canyon in Dominguez-Escalante NCA in a unique way. Tied to appropriate state standards, students hike along the Gunnison River to see threatened cactus, historic archaeology, and dinosaur tracks. Then students visit the historic Captain Smith cabin to learn about the Homestead Act, how to identify native wildlife, and how animals survive in the harsh desert environment. All of this is provided to schools at no charge to them.
