with Joshua Lively
Join us for a free public paleontology talk by Joshua Lively, a PhD candidate at the University of Texas at Austin, who is going to present a prehistoric marine reptile (Prognathodon stadtmani) and the secrets of the ancient ocean!
Are you curious about what creatures inhabited the ancient oceans in what is now Delta and Montrose counties? Are you interested in learning more about the diversity and ecology of Colorado's Western Interior Seaway? Have you enjoyed the recent Jurassic World movies? Then join us on Sunday, August 12th at Two Rascals Brewing Company for this insightful paleontology presentation!
Joshua will talk about his research on a group of marine lizards known as mosasaurs, who lived during the last 26 million years of the "Age of Dinosaurs." A mosasaur called Prognathodon stadtmani (discovered and excavated near Cedaredge in 1975) first brought Josh to Delta County in 2017. Josh will showcase some of his preliminary work on the fossils and rocks from the area. Finally, he will shed a light on how these discoveries play into the bigger picture of understanding life in Colorado's ancient ocean. Learn about how mosasaurs like the one in Jurassic World once inhabited our National Conservation Areas, and how CCA is supporting this important scientific work.
The full menu from the brewery will be available for purchase at the event.
