Position Summary:
This is a full-time 40-hour a week position based in Grand Junction, Colorado. The VISTA will assist in the expansion of volunteer outreach to build the capacity of CCA’s educational programs in the community and assist the Education Director to integrate stewardship and restoration activities into our K-12 education field trips. The VISTA will add volunteer capacity and formalize our volunteer program to expand current river and land-based restoration activities. Additionally, they will visit students in classroom and provide information about CCA programs as well as career opportunities that exist related to public lands and land management. They will run the BLM Grand Junction Field Office bookstore and take a lead in the expansion to the Dinosaur Journey Museum. 10% of the VISTAs time will focus on professional development such as regional activities, conferences, presentation, professional papers and partnerships (including the Stewards VISTA training, building a professional network that will benefit both the sponsor and the VISTA.)

Organization Background:
Colorado Canyons Association (CCA) fosters community stewardship, education and awareness of our National Conservation Lands with a focus on Dominguez-Escalante, Gunnison Gorge, and McInnis Canyons National Conservation Areas (NCAs) in western Colorado. We are a non-partisan, non-profit organization encouraging cooperation among all NCA users and interests.

CCA has a robust set of programs that engage the community in education, citizen science and stewardship activities on both the lands and waterways of our regional NCAs. Our organization boasts diverse and long-standing community support representing a wide cross-section of NCA interests.  

CCA recently received national recognition as the 2018 recipient of the Public Lands Foundation Landscape Stewardship Award.
