CCA and Museums of Western Colorado Team Up!

Colorado Canyons Association is pleased to announce that we're developing a deeper partnership with the Museums of Western Colorado (MWC).

The MWC is an important member of the community when it comes to discovering, preserving, and sharing the natural and cultural history of western Colorado’s National Conservation Areas. The curation and interpretation of artifacts and fossils from the NCAs helps the public better appreciate the value of these special areas; it is this appreciation on which our new collaboration will build. Museum/CCA Explore It Camps

This summer, youth ages 8-14 are invited to join CCA and the Museums of Western Colorado for three adventure-filled days of exploration and interaction with the unique collections and stories found at Cross Orchards Historic Site, Museum of the West, Dinosaur Journey, and the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area (NCA).

Specifically, students will spend time out in the NCA, learning about Jurassic dinosaurs that roamed across western Colorado 152 million years ago; students will then get the chance to view collections from the NCAs at Dinosaur Journey Museum in Fruita. Students will also see NCA-based archaeology collections at the Museum of the West, including Pre-Hispanic and Hispanic artifacts collected by museum scientists. Students will also experience early pioneer life in the Grand Valley at Cross Orchards.

Classes are for students ages 8-14, and are taking place July 11th -13th, July 18th - 20th, July 25th - 27th, and cost $180 per students.
