McInnis Canyons and Dominguez-Escalante are Going Gold!

We are thrilled to announce that McInnis Canyons and Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Areas (NCAs) are receiving Gold Standard Designation from Leave No Trace (LNT)! Learn more about Gold Standard Sites and join us to celebrate on November 9th at the Copper Club.

What is a Gold Standard Site?

A Leave No Trace Gold Standard Site recognizes public lands that implement the highest standard of onsite LNT programs including staff and volunteer training, educational materials, and additional resources. Before becoming a Gold Standard Site, each area undergoes a rigorous review process to gain the special status by showcasing its LNT offerings.

To date, there are less than 20 sites across the nation that have received the Gold Standard designation - and only one of those is managed by the BLM. McInnis Canyons and Dominguez Escalante National Conservation Areas will become the 2nd and 3rd BLM sites to join the ranks!

What makes McInnis Canyons and Dominguez-Escalante stand out?

For anyone who has visited a National Conservation Area, you know they are a special place. With pristine landscapes and abundant recreation, the NCAs are the crown jewels of BLM land - McInnis Canyons and Dominguez-Escalante are no exception!

Thanks to the robust partnership between CCA and the BLM, our local NCAs exemplify the 7 LNT principles. For over a decade, we have dedicated our mission to enhancing education, stewardship, and outreach on these landscapes - a lot of that involves teaching locals and visitors the importance of Leave No Trace! From student field trips to community hikes, these two NCAs showcase high-quality LNT educational programs and resources. Now that the NCAs are LNT Gold Standard sites, these LNT efforts will continue for year to come.

Join us to celebrate!

To honor this great achievement, we’re asking our community to celebrate with us! Join us on Thursday, November 9th from 6-8 PM at Copper Club in Fruita to commemorate the occasion.
