The Desert Bighorn sheep of black Ridge
With CPW Biologist, Genevieve Fuller
Genevieve Fuller, a Terrestrial Biologist for Colorado Parks and Wildlife, will teach you about one of the most beloved animals on the Colorado Plateau - the Desert bighorn sheep! Bighorn sheep are native to the desert canyons of Colorado, but disappeared from the modern landscape. This talk will cover the history, reintroduction, biology, management and current status of desert bighorn sheep in the Black Ridge Sheep Herd that live in the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area and the Colorado National Monument.
Rare and Endemic Plants of the NCAs
With Bureau of Land Management Ecologist, Ken Holsinger
Explore the rare and endemic plant species that occur within the NCA's in our 1-hour virtual lecture with BLM Ecologist, Ken Holsinger! We’ll be taking a look at the unique environments these plants exploit and their unique survival strategies that make them inherently rare. Ken will discuss the efforts employed by the BLM and other entities involved in conservation of rare plants. Finish off with a discussion of what BLM does to inform US Fish and Wildlife Service decisions regarding plants species that are currently protected or under consideration for protection under the Endangered Species Act.
The Wild, Wild NCAs
With local historian, Zeb Miracle
Today's National Conservation Areas provide a peaceful place to recreate and reflect. But it was not always so calm. Hear the stories of murder and mayhem that happened on what are now popular trails in McInnis Canyons and the Dominquez-Escalante National Conservation Areas. Join CCA and Zebulon Miracle to talk about the rich history of Colorado’s NCAs.
